Im in Melbourne library at the minute where u can get free unlimited internet access, saves paying the rates in the hostel! I tried to upload some pics I took yesterday but theres no photo software on these machines and I forgot to bring my disk oops!
So, the hostel Im staying in is really nice, clean, spacious and comfortable. After a morning of panic attacks I was so relieved when I walked into my 4 bed dorm (2 x bunk beds) and found 2 english girls my age from Plymouth. They have been here for 10 days and are looking for a car so they can travel to West Australia. We went to Melbourne Museum which was not as boring as it may sound, they had a forest gallery that you walked through and it was just like being outside, there were animals there too! Then there was a mind and body gallery and a gallery of australia with all info on aboriginals and the history they hold. There was also a set from Neighbours - the Scully house kitchen!! I had my pic took in it where Im opening the fridge and Charlene's wedding cake was inside ha ha! It was a good place to go to but unfortunately we ran out of time and it closed, we did leave it a bit late to go!
Then the girls went to St Kilda to look at a car so I was left on my own in the hostel, i attempted my first meal in the kitchen. The hostel is full of Koreans and Chinese so there they were cooking up all these feasts that you would normally get in a restaurant and there was me and my beans on toast!!!! I got talking to a group of girls that included an Irish girl, a German girl and 4 Korean girls. They were all very friendly and I spent the evening with them in the hostel drinking our box of wine and eating a big tub of choc ice cream, one of the girls left for Sydney today. So its still a weird experience for me. I am making an effort to speak to whoever I can but havent made any travel buddies yet. Most in the hostel have been there for weeks and are working or moving on (or just cant speak english!). Brekkie was good and free, bonus! Got chatting to some more people there. So today I am exploring the City on my own while my room mates continue their car hunting and then we're meeting up later. I am ok, the hardest thing Ive found so far isnt really meeting people, thats fine, its meeting people who have the same plans as me so we can sort of hang around for a few days, but hey, its only been a day! So far anyone I have met is already doing there own thing or have already been thru the city or are just leaving!
Im glad to say that the sun is shining today and is set to keep that way for at least the next week. Its gunna be weird getting used to new faces all the time, especially in my room but thats something thats just gunna get easier with time I expect. I'm hoping that once I start my Oz tour I'll meet more like minded people.
Ive found a place to stay in Sydney that Im gunna email again today to see if i can book in when i get there or if i should pre book, it sounds like a good place and two of the girls i have spoken to said they had stayed in lots of diff places and that was the best so fingers crossed!
Time to go exploring now, I'll try and put my pics on another day!
