On Thursday me and Ryan headed into the City for the day. On the way there the train soon got filled with lads in suits and ladies in posh dresses and big feathery things in their hair, there was another horse race on. We considered going for a second in our combats and T-shirts! The City was a lot quieter than the first time I went in, mainly cos of the racing and people being at work (Aussie’s only ever work part time anyway really) We went to the Casino where Ryan quickly lost his money! Its so weird just walking around that place and seeing on the 1C machines right up the $50 tables, wonder if anyone actually wins in there! Then we headed to Melbourne Observation Tower where the 360 degree views were stunning and it was such a sunny clear day too. The pics I took just don’t do it justice. You could see all of the bay back to Frankston and the rooftops of buildings decorated with tennis courts and gardens! The great thing about travelling in and around the City is that when you buy a train ticket for example, that automatically covers all your other forms of transport in and around the city for that day or time period, so you jump on and off as many trains, trams and busses at no extra cost! There is a free tram that circles the city anyway and takes you to the key sight seeing places – we were going to get this until we saw everyone packed liked sardines in it, hmm do that another day! We did get the tram down to St Kilda, a beach town just outside of the City. You will see from the pics I took that it was pretty blustery on the sea front. There were loads of people in the sea surfing on tiny boards with only huge kites that they were attached to guiding them!
Today Paul and Shell have taken me on a tour of places along the bay, some places they hadn’t been to before either. We stopped off at ‘Arthur’s Seat’ which is a kind of mountain and there are cable cars to take you up and down, these weren’t working as apparently they collapsed some months ago (people were on them at the time!!) So we drove up the steep steep incline, at the top there was a disappointing rusty chair which was supposed to be Arthur’s Seat (forget the story behind it) but there were stunning views, it was like being inside a holiday brochure! They’re the sort of views that you really cannot put into words, the pics I took show the bay and that is where we were strolling along later in the day, jealous?! We then continued along to the town of Rye, another pretty beach town where we stopped and had a wander. Then we went into Sorrento which was a larger town with a big harbour and ferry terminal, the town itself was lovely and the houses looked like dream houses! We travelled on to Portsea (my Aunty Clare has a holiday home here) and explored the beach here. Because of where we were near the tip of the Peninsula we could explore the beaches of Portsea on each side on the Peninsula, one side was a typical lovely beach, calm and playful, the other side where ‘London Bridge’ was a lot more choppy seas and rocky to say the least! The pics of me at London Bridge were so scary to take!! When I was under the bridge climbing into my position the waves kept bashing thru the gap, I was so relieved to get out of there, things I have to do to send u guys a decent pic!! Then we were pretty staving after all of our hard work travelling and exploring beautiful towns and beaches in 26C heat so we headed back to Mornington for our lunch! Last time I went to Mornington the weather was crap so it was like a totally different town seeing it in the sunshine, it really is a beautiful place! Then, exhausted and stuffed from our lunch, we finally headed back where we collapsed on the settee as it started to cool down!
Its gunna be such a challenge for me on this trip, those of you that know me well will know how much I need and enjoy my afternoon naps ha ha! And theres no need for you to be too jealous about the weather at the minute, we’ve had a couple of lovely days but they’ve forecast showers and storms for the next few (Still warmer than in the UK tho!)
The shops here are filled with Christmas gifts and there was a Christmas parade in Melbourne today – its just not right!!! Doesn’t feel like Christmas at all, not even a little bit! Apparently there’s designated day in July when English folk celebrate xmas again cos then its in their winter time!
So on Thurs I’m off into the City for a whole week before I start my trip, scared bout staying the hostels but excited too, hope I meet some nice people!
