So this is my last day before I start living as a proper backpacker rather than from the comforts of someone’s home - I’m hitting the hostels ha ha!! I am still a little worried (you that know me well will know that I worry about everything!) but I am looking on the bright side and hoping to meet lots of people! I will be staying at Melbourne International Backpackers for one week before I start the first stretch of my Oz Experience tour from Melbourne up to Sydney. The hostel has a weekly rate of $125 which works out to be about $17 a night (approx ₤7 a night!) and includes brekkie too so can’t complain with that!!
My trip up to Sydney will take 4 days as I will be stopping at different places on the way up, so leaving Melbourne on Thurs 23rd and arriving in Sydney on Sun 26th where I can sort out a place to stay and hopefully find somewhere to sleep at xmas too. Because the Ashes are on Sydney is filled with the ‘Barmy Army’ here to support England so should be a laugh but mega busy too! The first place I tried is already fully booked, looks like I’ll be sleeping on the beach under the stars then!
Hopefully the weather is gunna cheer up for me after today, its been so dark, miserable wet raining weather with hail and snow mixed in – what’s going on – feels like I’m back home!!??
So, before I set off here are some strange / weird / wonderful things I have noticed so far during my 3 weeks on the other side of the world!.....* The Weather, 4 seasons in one day really does happen, it aint all sunshine! * TV is 100 times worse here than at home, it’s all medi or crime docs unless you have Foxtel (Oz version of Sky), They show the news every 15minutes, no programme is introduced or has a theme tune, they just cut straight into it! Hopefully once I get going TV will not be an issue! * Because of the droughts up in Cairns a small bunch of bananas will cost $10 (₤4) so is a delicacy here at the min and only for the wealthy! * Cadbury’s chocolate has a much bigger range of goodies out here than in UK, why?? * The Aussie’s are moaning like hell cos petrols $1 a litre – errr that’s like 40p!?
I’m sure I’ll find some more things as I go on, but next time you eat a banana just remember how lucky you are!
