Hello. Once again I'm doing the blog, yes Andrew. Hiyaaaaa! The Gulf of Thailand and the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Pan Nang and Koh Tao. First of all the unpleasantries - we got robbed somewhere inbetween the west coast and east coast. Not a lot gone so not point in dwelling.
our first port of call was Koh Samui. We stayed in an area called Lamai in a bungalow - oh how I miss flushing toilets. The beach and sea here were great but the place was like a ghost town. We decided to move on to Chaweng but this seemed just as quiet despite being the largest tourist town.
Next stop was Koh Pha Ngan - the legendary full moon party island. We missed it. Typical! We stayed in Haad Rin for 3 nights and it wasn't what we expected. It was very quiet, we were definately in the low season despite the travel agent in Bangkok telling us that it'd be rammed and we wouldn't be able to get accommodation. Obviously just after our money. Haad Rin was a real mess, beach was untidy, streets stank and food weren't the best - too much Western crap. Danni's highlight was watching Sex in the City 2!
Over to Koh Tao next and the boat ride did not improve our moods - we were both green by the time we got there, however, once we got settled we instantly liked the place. Tao has a very similar feel as Phi Phi. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to go diving because of my guts. Despite this we still ended up staying for 6 nights, which is the longest we've stayed anywhere. The sea is once again beautiful. The weather has been hit and miss but we took it easy here so didn't mind too much. We had a great day out snorkelling and visited the island of Nang Yuan which was absolutely stunning. All in all it was a great way to finish Thailand.
