Hello all!! Well it's time for me to stop being a lazy little sod and write a blog. Dan's been good enough to do them all up to now bar Hong Kong.
Lao is awesome. Need I say anymore. We both went into this country with no preconceptions of what to expect and I'm sure Danni would agree with me that Lao has been the highlight so far. First of all the journey from Hanoi to Vientienne was LONG! 13 hours one day and 6 hours the next with a quick stop over in a cold sleepy town in between. One bonus was the scenery, it's the best I've seen from anywhere I've ever travelled.
Vientienne was our first prominant stop. Man is this the quietest capital city imaginable. A situation like this calls for one thing...Rugger and excess amounts of beer! After that blur we journied to Vang Vieng. The surround area is beatiful. The best way to describe it is Ha Long Bay without the water. The first morning myself, Danni & Thomas rented bikes and went to a huge cave (Can't remember the name) and Blue Lagoon. We weren't best prepared so couldn't go too deep but from what we saw we were pleased to have taken the long bike ride in the scorching sun. It helped that we got to jump in the blue lagoon to cool off. Water was fresh and gorgeous. That was just the morning activities. We then went tubing down the Mekong River. Quality. Loads of bars, loads of slides and I'm still trying to get the red spray paint off my back spelling 'SL@G'!!
Next stop Luang Prabang. A Unesco heritage town, gorgeous place. Danni & I took our time here, explored the town, the temples and ventured down the small alley ways. Some great markets selling a variety of food and Bits n Bobs. Beautiful place, would highly recommend. Avoid the Lao Lao though, my head literally fell off! We left the Lao via a 2 day slow boat down the Mekong River, taking in the final scenery before once again entering Thailand.
