Hello and greetings from Malaysia!
Our first stop on our trip down the peninsular was the island of Langkawi. This had some gorgeous beaches and we had a great time here. We took the opportunity to take a cable car from the oriental village up the mountain which had some great views although it was a little misty. The oriental village was real good, we got to hold a huge snake and feed an elephant....not at the same time!! We also went island hopping and saw eagle feeding which was an awesome day out. We then travelled by boat to Georgetown in Penang.
Penang is a top Malaysian tourist destination and is highly billed....personally I wouldn't recommend it. We stayed in Georgtown for 3 nights and the place didn't seem very well set up for people to walk, even though it was a world heritage site. The best thing about it was the Kak Lok Si Temple which was great.
Our third stop was the Cameron Highlands. This place was amazing, the winding roads, the tree plantations, the jungle....it was a great place to chill out for a few days and chill we did because it was cold. I won't say freezing but when all you have is shorts and t-shirts it got a little nippy! We did 2 tours here, one through the jungle to the worlds largest blooming flower and one tour to the tree plantation and the local farms - however, on the way back to the hotel the land rover broke down and the whole group had to sqeeze into one. There was 12 of us all together, very uncomfortable, but not the first time somethings broken down on us in SE Asia - I make it number 5. We really enjoyed the Cameron Highlands, it had some really great views and loved the home made scones and tea.
Kuala Lumpur, the capital. Awesome place and easily the cleanest capital city we've visited in SE Asia. The Petronas Towers are a spectical all in themselves, amazing buildings. A must to visit both night and day. We also took a trip up the KL Tower at night which had some top views. We both really liked KL and the shopping centres made a nice change, especially because they were all Christmasy and we also watched the latest Harry Potter movie for a bargain 2 pound each!! We ventured out a little too. One day we went Batu Caves which is an Hindu Temple, the statue is good but the caves not so great. We also got the train to Putrajaya, which is the administrative region of Malasyia where parliment ect are. This was a lovely place, very well kept and worth the visit although not terrible exciting.
Our final major stop was Melaka, once again a heritage world site and we were praying it wasn't like Georgetown and it wasn't. We liked it here. Excellent place to wonder around and take in the sites. Cars are still everywhere but we enjoyed Melaka. Next stop Singapore for Christmas!! Can't wait for our roast din dins!!
