Today we enjoyed the hottest day since we arrived in NZ... I say enjoyed but the sun was so hot I was lathering Charlie with sun cream every half an hour and permanently hunting down shade! Charlie and I went to Harauki Primary School Fair with a couple of other friends and their toddlers. I was very impressed with the professionalism of it all, they had the navy band playing, loads of stalls and had even hired an animal farm for the occasion. The poor animals had loads of kid pawing all over them and Charlotte was no exception, patting and greeting them with all her usual enthusiasm. We tried to relax in the shade of a big tree but Charlie and her partner in crime Eliza kept running off. They would charge a distance of 200m, duck under bunting then barge past kids twice their height all in pursuit of a bouncy castle!
After the fair we collected Harry from Massimo's and headed back to Devonport for the precisely titled 'Devonport Architects and families Picnic'. There were about 15 Architects there in total and you could spot them a mile off - straw hats seem to be de-rigour! It was pretty idyllic we sat beer in hand in the evening sunshine looking out across the sea to the picturesque Rangitoto Volcano. Charlie made everyone laugh by crawling across the picnic blankets to grab a handful of chocolate fudge which she promptly stuffed in and smeared round her mouth. As Harry had spent a lot of time with Charlie on the beach rather than chatting to everyone I took Charlie home and left Harry to socialise.
