We arrived in Phuket by plane and found a half building site backpackers hostel to stay in, the next day we explored the whole of Phuket by moped. We found a nice beach to have a swim, and saw some pretty awful 18-30 type holiday destinations on route.
We soon moved on from Phuket to the islands of Yao Yai & Yao Noi staying one night on each. Yao Yai was much more isolated, we must have been the only tourists on the island. we stayed in a lovely bungalow on the beach where crabs outnumbered us a million to one!
Yao Noi had more life on it. It was home to rubber trees, with rubber sheets drying out everywhere in the sun. We explored the island on a moped, stopping off for a swim on the beach of the £8000 a night resort!
The next day we went to Railey, which can only be accessed by boat but is still on the mainland. It's covered with huge karsts and jungle that backdrop the beaches. We tested all 3 of the beaches, one of which we had to scramble over the jungle to get to. We climbed a steep rocky path up to a view point where we saw a huge lizard, there was also lots of monkeys everywhere, one kept barking at Dick!
From Railey we ferried to Phi Phi. We stayed on a beach called Hat Rantee, where there was amazing reefs for snorkelling. We chilled out here for a couple of days soaking up the sun, snorkelling and eating some great food.
