We had a lay in this morning and a bit of a relax but because the weather wasn't too bad we decided we'd head down to the river to do our one hour in a canoe. Well I can safely say that canoeing is something I will never do again!! Not only is it more difficult than it looks (we went round in a circle twice before even going anywhere and hit the bank a couple of times) it is quite boring despite the beautiful scenery around us, and with all the bobbing about it almost gave me motion sickness. I was constantly shouting at Kelly (as she was in charge of steering) "left left left, too much left, we need to go right, we're gona hit that, right right!!!!" haha. We spent the majority of the time going in a zig-zag rather than straight ahead and after about half an hour we decided to give up and come back before I threw up!
We never know what the weather is going to be like from day to day and as it was fairly sunny we decided after canoeing we would go and do the Banff Gondola. It's an 8 minute ride to the summit of Sulpher Mountain. Once up there I did the 1km walk along the summit ridge (not as scary as it sounds, its all decked out, like a long path) which led to the Cosmic Ray Station National Historic Site of Canada and the old meteorological or weather station. It was the highest point and the views over the mountains and of Banff town were incredible! It was very cold up there so I treated myself to a nice hot chocolate back at the bottom. We then headed back for dinner.
Really hoping it's a nice day tomorrow as we've got horse riding!
Oh, when we got off the bus just on the grass hill right outside the hostel there were about 10 elk grazing!! It was an amazing sight but elk can be dangerous so you are supposed to give them plenty of space, and at this time of year they can be particularly aggressive!
