It has been another good week here in Cape Town. On Thursday after work a bunch of the girls and I went to Signal Hill to watch the sunset. Signal Hill is a huge hill basically in the middle of the city; It kind of branches off from Lions Head and Table Mountain. On our way there, we stopped and got some cheese and wine. It was a beautiful night in Cape Town, so it was a lot of fun! Since we are so close to the end we are trying to take advantage of any nice days we get. The sunset was absolutely beautiful. Cape Town is literally one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. As excited as I am to go home and see my family and friends, I am going to miss seeing the amazing sunsets and breathtaking mountains everyday!
On Friday we went SURFING for the VAC activity! It was so much fun!!! Oliver, one of the program directors, gave us lessons. The weather was gorgeous again and the water was amazing. I was expecting it to be pretty cold but it actually wasn't bad at all. Surfing was pretty hard but I managed to get up on a foot and keen! I wasn't standing all the way but was still up at least! I feel so lucky to have had this experience. Cape Town has some of the best surfing in the world (and although I am no surfer), it was such a great experience!
Friday night we went to some weird warehouse party. One of the girls' friends recommended it. When we got there we decided it wasn't our cup of tea. Most of us left and went to Neighborhood (our favorite bar on Long Street). We had a great time just hanging out. We are good friends with one of the bartenders, Brite, so we know we will always have a good time there.
We went to Old Biscuit again on Saturday morning and I got a delicious sandwich. The best part about Old Biscuit is definitely the food. I only have one more chance to go to Old biscuit too, so hopefully I will be hungry when I go! There is still so much I want to try! The rest of Saturday was pretty low key because the weather was terrible. We walked around the mall for a bit, and then Kelsey and I went to the South African Museum. We also went to Green Market Square, which is ideal for souvenir shopping if you are looking for local handmade things.
On Sunday we walk about a mile to the UCT Campus. Even though it was rainy, the Campus looked so beautiful! I posted pictures, so take a look. We also walked up to the Rhodes Memorial. We ended the day at Beluga, a nice restaurant that has half off sushi on Sundays. It was a great end to a rainy day.
As I said in my last post, I didn't work on Monday because of the protests. Kelsey and I took the train to Kalk Bay just to hang out and enjoy the sunshine. It was really nice to have an extra day off.
I only have two weeks left in Cape Town! It is unreal how fast time goes by! I decided the change my flight and am now coming home on September 13th, instead of the 18th. I have to head back to school on the 21st so I decided that I would much rather come home and spend a few extra days with my family. I have pretty much done everything that I wanted to do here in Cape Town and I miss my family a ton; so it is worth it 100% to head home five days early.
Stay tuned for more updates! This weekend we are going to Robben Island, which is where Nelson Mandela was held, and next weekend we are going to Hermanus for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! Hermanus is a little coastal town about an hour and a half away from Cape Town. I can't wait!
