Yesterday at work things were pretty much back to normal. I was expecting things to be really crazy and hectic due to the big protest the day before but it didn't seem any different. I think the reason for this is because the people of Khayelitsha are used to living in this sort of environment. This protest was such a big deal because it was also taking place in downtown Cape Town, not just the townships. The ANCYL (The African National Congress Youth League is the youth wing of the African National Congress) were the ones protesting. This is something that a lot of people in Cape Town are not used to. I have met countless people who have lived in Cape Town their whole lives but have not once stepped a foot in the townships. My supervisor said that the ANCYL is planning to do another protest in Constantia, which is wine country. It seems that they are realizing that protesting in their own community (Khayelitsha and other surrounding townships) is not getting them far.
Besides that, this week has not been very eventful at work. Yesterday we had another meeting to discuss and evaluate our services. It was an all day meeting. Today I did some administrative work and some more givengain work and then tomorrow we have some school visits planned. I have Friday off so that will be the end of the work week for me!
