Today was our last day in Ulaanbaatar as we were catching a train to Irkutsk. We met our local guide Nemo who was taking us on a city tour today. We went to the Gandontegchenling Monastery, to look at the temples, plus we got to hear some of the monks chanting. After this we went to The Bogd Khaan Palace Museum, which was the winter Palace. Also on the same sight was the summer palace. We then drove up a hill, which had a nice view of Ulaanbaatar.
We then went to a restaurant called the Lotus Flower, which is a vegetarian restaurant, but it was close so some of us opted for the BBQ chicken place near our hotel. As we were catching a train tonight we went to the supermarket to stock up on supplies for this journey. We then came back to the hotel and packed our stuff before getting picked up at 8.45pm to get our train.
We arrived at the station but the train wasn't there yet so we stayed in the van until it came. When the train finally arrived we were all lining up to get on the train but there was all this commotion and no one was getting on the train. Freezing our butts off we could not feel our fingers or our toes. With our guides yelling at the train attendants to let us on the train, we eventually boarded the train and went through the pain of warming up. The train temperature was at 25C and we had been standing outside in -25C so the change in 50C was a bit painful.
On this train journey I was sharing with Erin, Glenn and Lois, so it was going to be another sleepless night with Lois' snoring. Not being able to sleep, Glenn eventually yelled at Lois to shut up and her immediate reaction was to tell Glenn he too was snoring which was a load of crap as he wasn't even asleep. Go figure!
