We were left Listvyanka (8.01.09) to catch the Trans Siberian across to Vladimir. On my way down stairs for breakfast I ended up slipping and hurting my little toe, it hurt so much that I think I actually broke it as it swelled up so much and I couldn't move it. After breakfast we packed our bags, said goodbye to Nikoli and boarded our bus to Irkutsk.
We had a free day in Irkutsk before catching the train, so we went to the Decembrist museum. After looking at the Decembrist museum we went to store our bags at a hotel then went and had lunch. After lunch we wondered through the markets and stocked up for our next journey on the train. We then went back to the hotel and had a couple of beers whilst waiting for the rest of the group to turn up. We also said goodbye to Robin and Doug who were flying back to Brisbane tonight (8.01.09)
Once everyone arrived we got on the bus and drove to the station and waited to board the train. Waiting in the waiting room there was quite a lot of Chinese who had stocked up on so much food to take back with them to China. Apparently it was illegal to do this but they had ways of hiding this stuff on the train without getting found out.
We finally boarded the train where we will be spending the next four days, which was perfect, as I couldn't really walk that much with my little toe thumping with pain every time I walked on it. I was sharing with JP, Kerry and Pam, which was good as none of them snored.
We played cards, chatted, drank and chilled out on the train for the next four days. It was great fun being on the train and seeing the scenery and meeting people along the way. Although after about the 3rd day I was ready to get off, as we weren't able to shower plus all the greasy food we were buying from the Babushka's was making my skin and hair really oily, but it still was great fun. We arrived into Vladimir, said goodbye to our lovely train attendants, then caught cabs to Suzdal, where we were staying for the night.
Upon arriving into Suzdal, we checked into our hotel, had a well needed shower and then went for a walk through the town. We went through the main square where there was a few stalls, then we went to try the local specialty Honey Mead Wine. It was really good. We all shared a plate of wine between two and by the end of it we were quite tippsy. After the tasting we went for dinner at a local restaurant, before calling it a night.
