4th & 5th of May
Today we had an early start as we were leaving Paris and heading to Bruges. We met in reception after breakfast and then caught a couple of local buses to the bus station where we had to wait for an hour or so before boarding our bus. Once we got onto the bus it was pretty much empty so we all had seats to ourselves. The scenery along they way was nice and green but nothing too exciting to look at.
We arrived into Brussels around 1pm and got off the bus at the train station where we were to get our train to Bruges. We had some lunch then about an hour or so later boarded our train. After a short train ride we arrived into Bruges around 3pm, then caught a local bus to our hostel and checked in. This hostel was run by Australians and had quite a good set up. It was located only 5mins from the main city centre so it wasn't far for us to walk to.
This time I was sharing with Jo and our room was quite big and didn't go down to well with Jen. Anyway we then went for an orientation walk to the city centre. We wondered around for a little while looking at the city then went back to the hostel and sat in the bar before having dinner. After dinner Tim took us to the 300-beer house where he ordered us each a beer. Mine was a weird beer in a rather large hourglass looking thing. It was a dark beer, which I don't usually like and it was about 9% so it was quite strong.
The next day after breakfast I met Jo, Lisa and Dan in the bar of the hostel. We walked into the city centre and climbed the 366 steps of the Belfry, then we wondered through the alleyways, went to the church, which has a Michelangelo sculpture of Madonna and child, the De Halve Maan Brewery and we also did canal tour.
After a long day of sight seeing we went back to the main square and tried some Pomme Frittes, which Bruges is supposedly famous for and I can see why. They were really good. We then headed back to the hostel and found somewhere to eat dinner. We met Tim in the hostel bar at 9pm and had a few drinks.
