hi all.
Its raining in Vietnam at the moment. It has in fact rained alot in the last few days which is a bit worrying because when it rains in nam it really rains. Last week on Sunday i traveled to Da Nang. I needed to be in Da Nang for orientation which was on Wednesday but i thought i would travel up a few days early to have a look at the Da Nang placement. Da Nang placement is bigger than Tam Ky placement. When comparing it to Tam Ky placement there are more babies and disabled people but less teaching.
I went to Malnourish and Social Support while in Da Nang. The Social Support program provides shelter and caters around 250 people. There are physically and mentally disabled children, elderly, babies and children. It is difficult, particularly with some of the disabled kids have fits, pick up anything and think they can eat it and deliberately try and harm themselves.
Malnourish is an orphanage that homes about 15 babies who are mostly orphans but there are a few babies who are there because there parent cannot look after them. The volunteers job is to assist the mothers in feeding, playing and changing the babies.
Da Nang placement is quite different from Tam Ky, they only work in the morning and afternoon while in Tam Ky we work in the morning, afternoon and evening. There are also more volunteers in Da Nang so you dont get your own room or much of your own time. Also Da Nang city is a big place so you have to take taxis everywhere unlike in Tam Ky were you can walk and bike around.
On Wednesday was orientation for the new volunteers. I spoke a bit about teaching and Tam Ky placement. This month in Tam Ky including me there are four volunteers Tristan, Suzanne and Megan. Suzanne very kindly brought me some Marmite and bread from NZ which was nice of her. I am really in need of some Salt and Vinegar crisps though, so if anyone can help me out with this problem that would be good lol.
At the weekend i went to Hoi An with a few of the new volunteers. On Saturday i went with Tristan, Megan and Katie to a Vietnamese wedding which my friend Hal invited me to. It was an experience. Tristan was sick on me and i ate a few things i wont eat again lol. It was a great laugh.
I am now back in Tam Ky with the new volunteers. Tonight i teach my class at Home of Affection which now has a few more kids in it because of the lack of Volunteers this month. On Wednesday i begin teaching at baby orphanage. We will see how the week goes because with only four volunteers in total we are all going to be very busy. I hope everyone is good.
