Day 8!
So today we had to be up stupidly early! Had to be out on the minibus by 7.30 and had to travel over to the othe rside of the peninsula so we could catch mid-high tide. We got there with the two boats and set off to do siene netting along a small stretch of sandy/mudish beach that was being covered up by the tide. We caught a seahorse!! And lots of Pipefish, and a Look Down, and lots of Half Beaks!!
We also did some trawling and dredging of which we didnt get much. And we did a bit of swimming, although i didnt because there was lots of sea grass in the shallow depths and i hate it! But it was good sitting in the surf anyway!
When we got back we ate some lunch and then went back out again, after lots of talk about my project experiment and outline, but this time on our boats in the Wachapreague Salt Marsh. There had been a big makeshift net constructed to catch all the fish flowing out of the river at low tide. It took forever to walk (okay stumble, drag, squish) through the mud to the creek inlet as it was too shallow for the boats. Im not kidding, we were going through mud that let you sink to around the top of my thigh level!! It was rediculous, but quite fun, the horrible bit was feeling "things" around my legs while i was standing still, oh and wading back to the boat and walking straight into the boat anchor!! I have a long blackish/blue bruise below my knee now!! Ouch!
When we got back, we really quickly had tea and got washed and then went to a seminar, which happens every month apparently, about seaweeds! Well it was meant to be about how seaweeds can help with pharmaceutical stuffs, and well it wasn't about that at all!
*got to go out on a boat now! shall finis/update later*
