Day One and Two!
So I got here safe and sound!! The first flight was horribly long, around 7hours 30minutes, with a 30minute delay at Manchester to start with. It was quite amusing though: as our airline was from Continental we all got little TV screens in front of us to play games, listen to music, and watch films. As a result i watched Kung Fu Panda, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as well as play numerous puzzle games!!
As we finally got 5minutes from landing at Newark I saw the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge - reminiscing my fav TV program Charmed! When we finally did land, we checked in through customs where my friend Christie got randomly baggage checked and she disappeared for about 35minutes and finally returned with a look of traumatisation and shock, nothing happened, she just got really nervous!
We went through security for our connecting flight to Norfolk, and Jay and I decided to go for a beer! We originally had loads of time but when we finally finished our pints we realised we had 15mintes til the plane took off! So we strolled down to the departure gate and Chris was waving frantically at us! He'd been calling us on the tannoy and we never heard him!! But we did catch the tiny plane and we did land in Virginia all fine.
Our little house is right next to the sea/salt marsh and it was soo warm, I slept like a log my first night here. Day two was great, got up early as my body wasn't used to the time change, had a glorious shower, and changed into my first bikini outfit as we were going swimming!! We recieved our laptops each, and had a tour of the area and all the labs, and then went shopping for food!
Once the most important task of eating was completed, we took a boat trip through the salt marsh and out to sea next to some barrier islands that are eroding away so much that there were four houses built on them with a 100metre sandy front to the sea. That was about 10years ago and now there are only three left and they are in the sea on their stilts!!
We went swimming which was a great laugh, we fooled our lecturer Chris Richardson and dragged him in! It wasn't greatly warm because we brought english weather with us but it certainly wasn't as cold as the sea in the UK!! Had my first attempted mosie bite but i wacked it! And we're having several competitions already - what majority of gender is up in the morning; girls won today, which gender is getting the most mosie bites, currently boys are winning. We also attempted to make a VIMS sign - like YMCA - in the sea!!! I don't think it really worked but it was hillarious trying!!
Im now currently all showered and ready for tea - chicken risotto anyone...?! And then bed most likely, still shattered from yesterday.
Dunno what's going on tomorrow but ill tell you then!
Ps. I DONT have signal and when I do which is when we are out of Wachapreague, it is very expensive - So Email!!! Ill pick those up every day! Also we are 5 hours behind here!!
