After leaving PE we caught the bus to East London, a large and rather boring seaside down and headed inland to the tiny village of Hogsback. Famous for being Tolkein´s inspiration for LOTR almost everything in the entire town plays around a ´magical´theme (including our hostel, Áway with the Fairies). It´s a beautiful little place, high up in the mountains overlooked by the three Hogsback Peaks. It´s also described as ´the most English place in SA´. We arrived mid afternoon, and as we only had one night set off almost staight a way on a hike through the woodlands to a hidden waterfall, with another girl we met on the bus. The walk was gorgeous, until the end when we managed to get ourselves lost with darkness setting in. After wandering around aimlessly for a bit, as it got darker and darker we eventually managed to find a road and after another ten minutes or so, to our relief, we saw lights up ahead. We´d found the Hogsback Inn, a rather nice hotel whose manager didn´t seem to pleased to see us tramping in all muddy in our walking boots. But he let us phone our hostel (and have a drink in his over`priced bar) and Dan, the hostel owner, turned up to collect us a little later (although not without laughing at us for a while first)
