Our next stop was Coffee Bay- the one place that every single person says you HAVE to visit along this stretch of coastline. The hostel, The Coffee Shack is one of the friendliest we´ve stayed at- the sort of place where everyone sits around together in the evenings. Our first day there the hostel was organising a beach day, so we headed down to the Bay with everyone else. First up was a free two hour surf lesson with an ex world champ, and this time I (eventually) managed to stand up so I felt I´d achieved something! Then the guys from the hostel cooked toasted sandwiches over hot coals, and the rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing, reading and playing volleyball. The following day Becky and I, along with Nora- a girl we´d met in Wilderness, who was also at teh Shack, did the ´Hole in the Wall´walk, one of the most beautiful hikes we´ve done so far. Although the Hole itself wasn´t so impressive, ther walk along the rugged coastline with the sea on one side and rolling hills (dotted with the tiny traditional round houses, roundevals, made with packed mud and thatched roofs) on the other was incredible. We stopped for a picnic lunch at the hole, and then headed to the main road ready to hitch a lift home as instructed by the hostel. No such luck- not one car passed us all the way back and it was dark when we finally arrived at the hostel after an 18k round trip. Just time for a bloody mary before the traditional South African potje that the hostel was preparing for us!
