We have settled in for our house-sitting over the Easter period while the owners, Jamie & Di have gone camping for 10 days. They greeted us with a lovely dinner and have entrusted their home, 3 chickens and their dog, Poh (an American Staffy) in our care.
Geraldton is a lovely small city right on the coast with easy access to lovely beaches, the mid-west outback and Perth 4 hours away. The town centre is right by the water and has lovely miniature lighthouses as centre-pieces of the roundabouts. The foreshore has been re-modelled over the last few years and is very picturesque with parkland, playgrounds and water play as well as lovely beaches to swim in. The sunsets are simply amazing!
They have an impressive hilltop memorial for the HMAS Sydney which was sunk in 1942 and only found in 2008! Geraldton was having a speedway weekend, so we decided to go along and reminisce about our speedway days before kids in Darwin! The track was thick with wet mud and after the first few rounds, we were pelted with red mud which covered us as well as our chairs, the inside and outside of the car (we were sitting on the tailgate backed in to the fence!). We thought we were safe on the straight, but everyone all around the track was hit too! Needless to say, after that they brought in graders to flatten all the mud!
We've enjoyed our Easter celebration in Geraldton after joining with the Baptist Church for their Good Friday service and then a beautiful dawn service on the beach at the Moore Pt Lighthouse on Easter Sunday. Jesus has risen! The people here are very friendly with one couple inviting us for afternoon tea as well as a dinner invitation with another couple.
