After two weeks of no reception, we finally have a window of opportunity to update our travels.
We started the rugged Gibb River Road with a 'luxury' stay at the El Questro Wilderness Park - not the $2000 per night accommodation on offer, but a lovely site among the trees and live music in the evening by a very talented guitarist called Chris Matthews! We spent 2 nights here and tackled a couple of gorge walks and a soak in the Zebedee Thermal Springs, which we went to early while still cool as it closes at 12pm to allow the 'elite' clients exclusive access.! Mind you, with tour groups arriving all at once, the pools do get a bit crowded!
We met a Dutch cyclist, Anita, on the road just before El Questro who is cycling across the Gibb River Road on her own. We took her with us in the car to visit the springs and later to El Questro Gorge - amazingly, she thought it was a much more comfortable ride!! El Questro gorge was such a challenge but such an amazing gorge! It entailed climbing up and over a huge boulder in the middle of the gorge and continuing a further 2km over rocks that kept getting bigger and trickier to climb - I almost gave up but Alf continued to encourage (push & pull) me and we were rewarded with a swim in a clear rock pool and flowing waterfall all on our own On the walk back, we came across 2 'golden' tree snakes - one in the rocks and the other on the gorge wall just above us. A great achievement!!
