Amazing to experience God's wonderful creation along this pristine coastline of the Cape Range National Park and Ningaloo Reef.
We had a brief stop in Exmouth to top up our water, groceries and a coffee with our new friends from the station, Fran & Brian. From there we made our way to the Osprey Campground in the national park. Initially, we had planned to drive the track from Ningaloo Station to the national park through Yardie Creek - a distance of about 30km, however, since the wet season and 2 cyclones, the creek was flooded so we had to drive 280km via the highway instead!
We've really enjoyed our stay here with the Ningaloo Reef on one side and the backdrop of the Cape Ranges on the other - simply beautiful! It was still a bit windy the first day, so for Mothers' Day, we hiked along Yardie Gorge, checked out the snorkelling sites and did a bit of 4wding to the top of the range - quite a steep, rocky track with magnificent views of the reef - as well as being high enough to get phone reception!
Praise God, the next day the wind dropped and we were able to swim and snorkel at the picturesque Turquoise 'drift' Bay and the Oyster Stacks where the water was clear and calm. We saw lots of fish with such beautiful colours, some hiding under the coral, picking at the coral and schools of dart in the shallows (pity you can't throw a line in!). The coral here is different to the Barrier Reef as it's not colourful but enables you to see the colours of the fish quite easily.
Back at our camp, Alf was encouraged to throw a line in after seeing a man catch a good sized 'spangled emporer' off the beach. So, off he went just before sunset and came back with a big grin and a 53cm golden trevally!!
So now, after spending a couple of months on the coast, we are heading inland to explore the amazing gorges of Karijini.
