Leaving Exmouth, we travelled the same roads as we did only a week or so previously when we raced inland to avoid the cyclone. The landscape heading east changed to beautiful red dirt with amazing rocky outcrops and mountains as well as purple, pink, yellow and white wild flowers starting to bloom on the sides of the road.
We had a quick overnight stop at a freecamp with a few other vans and backpackers, and then an early start to drive to the mining town of Paraburdoo. What a lovely little town - typical mining town, of course, but nice. We booked in to the caravan park as we'd heard some good reports and were the only ones there right up until sunset, when the group of backpackers who we had met the night before arrived to stay.
So, for most of the day we had the whole place to ourselves - free use of washing machines and dryers as well. So I had 6 machines going at once to wash everything I could find that needed cleaning in the caravan!! Alf even managed to wash all the salt, sand and dirt from the car too, so it was a worthwhile stop.
The following day, we drove to Tom Price - also a prominent mining town in the Pilbara, where we re-stocked on groceries for our time at Karajini National Park.
