Continuing up the coast of the south-west corner of WA, we've just been amazed at the outstanding beauty of the beaches and towns in this area. Incidentally, a lot of the place names end in the letters 'up', so maybe Western Australians are all feeling quite 'up-beat' about their state!
After leaving Margaret River, we visited Yallingup, observing the dedicated surfers and paddle boarders enjoying the beautiful weather and surf, and on to Cape Naturaliste and the lighthouse. From there, we meandered along the coastal roads to Bunker Bay, Eagle Bay, Meelup Beach and then lunch at Dunsborough - so beautiful! Apparently even a shark sighting along the coast. Again, the waters are so clear and the sand so white that you just can't help wanting to go in for a dip.
We then spent a couple of days at Busselton, staying right on the beach at the Seventh Day Adventist Camp which is along the 'Holy Mile' of beachfront church camps. No smoking or drinking allowed and minimal caravan sites which suited us fine. We had a nice couple, Warren & Maxine, next to us who served us special coffee in proper cups & saucers - felt like we were at a coffee shop!
We explored the Busselton township and walked the well-known 1.8km jetty on a sultry day, after which I needed a swim in the beautiful waters of Geographe Bay! Busselton has a really nice 'feel' about it. We really enjoyed our time there.
On our way north towards Perth, we spent a nice evening with our relative Steve Braam and his lovely wife, Michelle at Binningup - also a cute little coastal township just north of Bunbury. Great to see them!
On our drive further north after a quick overnight stop at a free camp, we happened to encounter the annual 'Crab Fest' at Mandurah, where we could enjoy markets, cooking demo's, water sport entertainment and the festival atmosphere of this picturesque town. Great!
We've just started to encounter a bit of rain and humidity heading north to Perth, due to Cyclone Olwyn, which is affecting the coastal areas north near Exmouth. The weather should settle down by the time we head further north.
