There sure is a lot to see in this small corner of Western Australia! After leaving the forests behind, we drove down to the southerly point called Cape Leeuwin - where the 2 oceans meet: the Southern and Indian Oceans. It also has the tallest lighthouse in Australia, however the prices to go in were pretty 'tall' too! Pretty scenery though, and we had a lovely morning tea stop at Augusta on the foreshore. A man was walking around with 2 beautiful parrots on his shoulder and he kindly put them on me to show me how friendly they are. They were quite cute but I was a bit wary when he wanted them to kiss me! ( Mum & Dad and Tim would have loved them!).
Hamelin Bay was a wonderful, picturesque seaside place which had huge stingrays coming right in to the beach! The 'Caves Road' which runs parallel to the coast winds through some more Karri forests and they say that there are about 150 caves running underground all along this route. You can go in some of them, but again, the cost is a bit expensive when traveling for a long distance.
We have spent a couple of days in a park at Margaret River so that we could explore the area more. Margaret River is famous for its wine and produce, so, today was our 'gourmet' tasting treat!
We started off at Cowaramup with fudge, next a 'dairy delight' of different cheeses and yoghurt, a chocolate fix with coffee (of course), followed by savoury snacks, wine and port tasting, cider sipping and finally, a pizza at the olive orchard! Overall, we didn't do too badly without over-indulging for our waistlines or our finances!! A great day!
