Lazy Alex is going to write another blog for you. And to prove how lazy I can be I started writing this on the 9th and continued/finished it on the 18th :D
A popular saying of mine should be "a lot has happened since last time", because it's true and well; a lot has happened since last time. More than you'll ever know ;)
I can't remember how far I should back track but I shall do my best for you my friends.
A few weeks ago (alright a month ago) there was my host cousins (I guess you could say that), Confirmation. Now, Denmark is definitely not an overly religious country and yet they have very big celebrations when their kids get Confirmed. The majority of the people invited won't fit in the church so they just turn up for the "after celebration" which consists of very nice food and wine at either someones house or a venue. Yups, we got dressed up quite nicely and had a really lovely lunch with an unhealthy amount of good food. It was a nice feeling having to dress up I must admit. Pulling out an uncomfortable dress and having to squirm around in it for 8 hours or so. Also some nice photos of my family were taken that day and I do like them.
I had a school history excursion which was mega weird because the history teacher kind of said "Alright, we're going to see historical things in Aalborg next week i'll meet you in there at 9am". Ummmm ok. So either our school is either untrusting or paranoid about excursions of Danish teachers are really laid back. Or both? We got in there and somehow, I don't even know, my history teacher spoke to some guys who were working on the roads and before I knew it we were going down a ladder into some really old room that's 3 meters below street level. Then they turned off the lights and we just stood in there for a good 15 minutes. A what the f*** moment that's for sure. I was so tempted to say "So who's getting sacraficed?" I swear it was the perfect setting for a horror movie.
It's hit 5 months which means I have 6 to go. It's so unbelievable since 6 months is the countdown. I can't say I want to rewind because things are really nice now and i'm really happy so I'm just trying to take things as they come without screwing them up.
We had 1 week of school when the weather was almost like an Australian Summer! I almost wanted to die of happiness. People even wore shorts without stockings underneath and every morning I could hear angels singing on my shoulders. I wasn't sunsafe though and didn't wear any sunscreen so I'm still managing to get closer to skin cancer from the other side of the world.
We went to one of our close family friends summer house and it was so nice. Really close to the beach and perfect to socialise in. We played a game vikings used to play and we ate some pretty nice food. Even ventured into the water for a little bit and it wasn't THAT cold. It's just the wind which feels like shards of ice stabbing your body afterwards. I'm exaggerating but you know what I mean....I think.
STEPH CAME TO MY HOUSE! Incase you didn't see anything on facebook Steph and her Mum took a mini trip from Germany to come and visit my family. Det var mega mega hyggeligt or jeg havde en fantastisk fire dage med dem. Luckily, the reunion wasn't awkward and it was just like we'd never spent 6 months apart. I took Steph to one of my English classes and then hit the town for the rest of the day with her mum as well. The next day we went to my little sisters school and taught the kids a little bit about Australia. We also bribed the children for friendship by handing out Aussie koalas if they answered some questions correctly. On the last night we made pizza and Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Sooooo good. Then of course, it was time for Steph to go. After tearing up at the train station at 6:40am and sniffing myself back to sleep again I was ok with the fact that i'll see her again in 6 months. Kind of. Oh I do miss you guys from home a lot.
After teaching the kids English or attempting too, I was asked back by the teacher to teach the other 3rd class. Of course I said yes and made the trip back with Kelsea. I must say the kids did like the girl from America and tad more than the one from Australia but that's alright. I was then asked back again to teach other grades and so i'm spending 2 more days there this week. Should be fun. I have no idea what to say for more than an hour. I end up drawing stuff on the board and they have to guess the english word and then spell it. Sadly, I can't bribe them with koalas because I gave them all away the first time and didn't expect to be going back so many times. Though it's nice to be wanted by little children. That sounds bad.
KELSEA. OH I HAD SPENT A MONTH WITHOUT YOU AND THEN YOU WERE BACK AGAIN. It was more than lovely seeing you again. Quite literally she left me on the verge of a break down in maths class when she showed me an adorable picture that her brother had sent her before she left the States. Though you came back to me making me extremely happy. I won't forget you meeting me at the station Kelsea...... In a very short time you will be leaving to go home and I know how ready you are. I will say it makes me upset seeing you go because a major part of me is going with you. Knowing that something as good as this actually ends for people is quite scary. Though I hope you know I'm so happy you'll get to spend the last few days with your dad and go home together. I love you Kelsea Jo Payne.
I've spent a few days with my contact family since we now live down the street from each other and it's great having a network of people I trust around me. Walking down for a good chat with some tea/coffee/pancakes/smoothie is always a mood lifter. I've gone for a walk in the forest with my contact parents and had many chats with my contact sister. The lakes and forests in Denmark are so beautiful. It's hard to explain. I'm not just turning squshy on nature i'm just being honest.
Had a meeting with AFS with the parents of people who are expecting exchange students to come this summer. If you could call this Danish weather summer. But anyway. Everything was in Danish so I just added in what I could. I was scared but proud that I was there. It means i'm now one of the people the newbies will look up to coming here. They're the ones who have no idea what's going on and although I can't say I understand everything; I know I can help people feel better about adjusting to this crazy new world they're going to step into. There is also a girl from NZ coming and going to my school so NEW FRIEND BEWARE! I WILL BEFRIEND YOU AND YOU WILL ENJOY IT. I really hope she doesn't see this blog like Kelsea stalked mine before coming...... I'm nice I swear :'(
On home terms, I've also finished the subject selection forms. If you want to know, i'm not actually sure, I've picked English Advanced, English extension, Anceint History, Legal Studies, Va, Re 1 and Mathematics. I'm happy with those subjects. It's not exactly a comforting thought thinking about what subjects you'll be doing in the HSC 2 years from now. I have no idea how everyone else went or how easy they thought it was but I hope it was ok for everyone. I'm sure there are people who have/are deciding whether or not to move schools as well and well to put it simple, we're getting old now. ekjfkasjdlaksjdasl not happy Jan. On that form where they asked you what career you wanted so they could see if it matched up with your subject choices I simply wrote "Journalism". Then someone told me they wrote a paragraph in that section and I got kind of worried but it's a bit late now.
I took an English Exam, (slaps knee) my god the exams in Denmark are unbelievable. They have an hour to do an exam "without help" which means without the computer or txt books. This exam is more like grammar and sentence structure which isn't too bad. There were translations which I couldn't do but I wrote a little message on the top of the paper explaining why I didn't really have anything down. THEN we had 4 hours to write a 600-800 word essay and for this you use the computer and your english txt books. Too be honest I don't think the computer helps that much since all you can use is a Dictionary. This is a lot better because I can type a lot faster than I can write and you can use any program that doesn't need the internet. So I listened to iTunes while writing and if I needed a break I played Spider Solitaire and Mahjong. You might be thinking "But Alex this is everyone elses second language and it's not that easy to write that much." That may be true but 4 hours is an incredibly long time and everyone finishes with AT LEAST an hour to spare. You can also eat during the exam since it's so long. I haven't decided if I like this better or not but it was a good experience. I'm honestly wondering what my grade will be for that paper.
I got a saxophone! My host sister was all for me getting my saxophone before the summer holidays and I'm sorry to say I think i've slightly disappointed her since I definitely don't or never did practice as much as I should. I have been sent sheet music and can play one of the 20 pages but once I get lessons then I'll learn and play for my family. Finally. I'm procrastinating with the idea in case you haven't noticed.
I lost my voice. Right when Steph came. The only time EVER for a good 3 days and although I wasn't curling in pain it wasn't fun when I was losing Risk and wanted to be grumpy but people could make fun of me for sounding like a guy going through puberty. Anyway, yeah.
Apparently Liv has an Australian accent. LOL LIV! (host sister) I have to say both my older host siblings sound extremely English when they're speaking but according to my English teacher she says some words and/or phrases like an Australian. And then there's my Mum who says I'm starting to speak with a Danish accent. Alrighty then. F%^k logic.
Madklub. Not mad club but translated means "food club". It's something my host Mum is involved in with her friends which means every now and then cooking some good food and having a chat with the girls. A few fridays ago I went and made cold rhubarb soup with ice cream with my host Mum. Sounds kind of gross but it actually tasted pretty good. My host Mum suggested I go so I didn't sit at home feeling sorry myself that my voice was gone and Steph went with it. She was right and I had a good time. The other Madklubians helped me make a list of things I needed to do before I turned 16. Quite interesting and I'm not sure I can tick them all off but we'll see how that goes. That's vague isn't it ;)
Tante Fjas. Oh my I hate this woman. Solvej (little sister) borrows books from her school library for me so that I can learn Danish. They're really simple and of course about stupid and pointless things but she borrowed books about this woman called Tante Fjas. It means Aunty Fjas in English and she's incredibly stupid. Maybe it's because Solvej did borrow about 15 of her short books and made me read them all in one sitting because they had to go back to the library the next day. Though come to think of it Solvej didn't even go to school the next day so hmph. Anyway, practise makes perfect with Danish right so I suppose I am thankful. I just never want to read about stupid Tante Fjas again. Ever. I rather read books about the mole who is trying to figure out which animal shat on his head.
Danish Music. Still good good good and the diversity is mega nice. One thing about Europe is that they also get the South American music. So even though I have no idea what i'm singing about, the beat is still good and it's definitely something different. I don't have to listen to the same artists over and over again. Even the songs in Swedish are good.
My couch. Something my host family love making fun of me about. For some reason there was a week where I was even more tired than usual and so I kept falling asleep on the lounge when I got home from school. This lounge has been dubbed "Alex's lounge" and no one else really sits on it. I'm not sure if they ever did before me but it fits me perfectly and it's perfect to fall asleep on. Though to avoid being teased I decided to suck up being tired for a little while and either crash in my room or not all. This way I don't get sent to bed eariler than usual which everyone knows I hate. I don't simply put myself to sleep at an acceptable hour.
Hamish & Andy's Euro Gap Year. YAY Australian comedy. So my real Mum told me to watch it and so I sat on the lounge and watched it on YouTube. I love it and will continue to watch it. I honestly have no idea what everyone is talking about when they're updating status' about Australian Tv Shows. Especially The Voice, I have no idea but oh well. I will stay updated on this one. So the Aussies update about singing and the Danes update about Soccer. Joy.
Went to an 18th party and although I have known for a while I can't remember if I told you this little tradition. When someone turns 18 in Denmark they have to take 18 shots. How many parents did I just give a heart attack too? Luckily i'm not turning 18 here right Mum and Dad? eh eh ;) i'm kidding i'm kidding but seriously. People don't have to drink them all, they can ask for help and they're not all hard liquor or liquor at all but if you're not sure, 18 shots is a lot of farking alcohol. Plus the rest of the Danes usually drink anyway so it's just makes things even more interesting to watch. Also, if you turn 25 and you aren't married you get cinnamon thrown on you and if you're 30 and unmarried you get pepper. I have no idea who starts these random things but I find them funny. Also when the song "Barbie Girl" comes on and people are super surprised people besides Danes know this song since Aqua are a Danish group I feel kinda special. Mwahahaha. Danes are also the types who won't dance unless they're beyond tipsy which doesn't make sense to me but it does make they're dancing so much more fun to watch.
The weather right now is crap and i've had 3 cups of oversized tea while writing this and watching the rain pour down outside.
OH. I didn't write about my Danish. eehhh I will admit that I have slacked off the last few weeks and haven't being speaking much Danish at all. I am confident/not really in saying that I understand and can follow most conversations. I have 6 months to become "fluent" and as a goal I really hope I can do that. Everynow and then I do speak English with a really bad accent just so people who haven't met me before think I'm Danish. LOLS triksta alert.
In 2 months i'll be 16 and in less than 2 months we'll have our next AFS camp. I can't believe I haven't seen any of you guys for so long but let's welcome the Danish Summer and see what happens.
I have now watched Finding Nemo and most of Toy Story 3 in Danish. The voices are incredibly wrong and off putting but it's extremely funny. Watching the sea turtles say "jelly man you were like woah and woah and then woooaaaah" with a Danish accent is gold. I guess you never think about all the other kids around the world saying "there's a snake in my boot" in so many different languages. Which reminds me! There's a Monsters Inc 2 coming out!!!!!!! In June next year which is 12 years after the last one was released. Now THAT made me feel old. I honestly don't remember being 3 when the first one came out. But I love Pixar films :')
So you guys at home are finishing up with Term 2? Half the year is gone already. Jeg er ikke glad for det. But what can I do. Time does fly when you're having fun.
I guess this is all for now. I'll try and be more consistent about writing from now on since I'm sure i've forgotten many, many important things. I also promise to take more photos because I've hardly taken any in the last 2 months.
Okays, goodbye, good wishes and farewell for now to you all. I'll talk to you soon. xoxoxox
