Day 14
Market Day in Chalais consisted of me stopping off at the post office to send some good ole snail mail to my friends and family. Then once I had my bits done I browsed the stalls.
Happening upon some real gems and sometimes wilfully deciding against many impulse buys. In hindsight I'm better off with many of my purchases. Bon!!
I found myself a lot more comfortable with myself in situations where I required my French. I have definitely progressed and find myself speaking and understanding more naturally.
An extremely pleasant lunch was enjoyed with two of the ladies here who I have grown quite close to. ( enjoyable as per usual)
The heat is extremely exhausting and after my touring weekend under the sun I felt the exhaustion build up on me today . I had to pump myself up to cook the dinner. I was most proud of myself with what I cooked after I had gone in kind of blind with some recommendations of spices to include by my mother. Fortunately it turned out extremely well balanced and with the flavour I was hoping to achieve but it wasn't as nice as my mothers (damn damn and double damn) more practice methinks.
A new volunteer arrived today who had quite a time getting here. Oh the trials and tribulations of travel!
I enjoyed a competitive and fun game of Pétanque in the village with Paul, Franc and Michel. With Raymond bringing out the Rosé on a win. Lovely way to cool down after the day, practice my French ( and get complimented on it) and enjoy some good sport.
À demain,
Aisling x
