Day 9...
The volunteering day at La Giraudiere began at 8 again today. In order to keep his volunteers happy the work day is substantially altered of late to prevent us from working in the intense afternoon heat. This just shows how concerned, understanding and friendly Paul is.
However today I was awoken before 07h by clashes and bangs of crazy thunder, followed by quick, bright and dry lightning. Something I had never ever woken up to, also I had never been too scared of storms at home but here I feared for my phone and quickly unplugged everything. In fact everyone shared in my fearfulness because it was so loud which was comforting.
Today I started the tough work and put on my overalls and bandana and began plastering. Firstly sanding down any grub or uneven bits on the last plasterers work. Then I got into the part I really began to like, the physical plastering, like icing a cake. Although Paul said the corners would prove tricky I was a wiz and plastered some pretty smooth corners, if I do say so myself. I think I have found my calling !
Après le déjeuner, one of the volunteers who had a car was planning in taking a short visit to Auberterre. A town around 20km (probs more) from Brossac which was awarded prettiest village in France, and that it was ! There is an amazing Monolithic Church which was carved from the side of a rock there and It was a cool and refreshing break from the incredible heat.
On returning home I helped a fellow volunteer cook the evening meal of Tart De Tomates which is a typical french dish. It tasted beautiful !
À demain,
Aisling xx
