Still travelling with Melody and Lyndon we drove our hire car back to Perth and stayed with Melody's Auntie there. Melody's poor Auntie had a house full, they had family from Norway staying with them and then we turned up and also Melody's friend Claire came to stay with us too! So there were 13 people staying in a 4 person house!!! It was good fun though. Melody's Auntie's house is great, it looks just like a house from Neighbours, it even has the pool in the back yard!!
We had a day at the beach which was nice, especially as the weather was good in Perth, the boys played some beach cricket with the children from the Norway family and the girls chilled out on the beach. We also went across to Rottnest Island which is an island just off Perth, you catch a ferry across. We had a great day at Rottnest, Vivi (Melody's cousin) came with us and she was our local guide for the day! We hired bikes and cycled around quite a bit of the island, stopping at a couple of beaches for a rest along the way. The beaches were totally gorgeous, pure white sand, one in particular called Parakeet Bay was just amazing, we sun bathed there for a while. We also went snorkelling on one of our stops, that was pretty good we saw some fish and a few little rays. The water was quite choppy though and it wasn't as clear here as the other places we had been. The highlight for me though was seeing the Quokkas!! They look like a cross between a mini kangaroo and a rat and are native to Rottnest Island, they are funny little things. I didn't manage to see one for most of the day and didn't want to leave without seeing one, but later as we were cycling we came across quite a few of them so we stopped to say hello. They come really close to you, they don't seem to be too scared, they must see a lot of humans with being on a small island. I didn't like them coming too close though, I didn't fancy a bite off one of them! We really enjoyed our day at Rottnest, it was loads of fun.
We went into the city as well and had a little walk around there and then went to Kings Park which is lovely and has great views of the city. On our last night we all went for a meal at an Italian restaurant which was good fun, it was our farewell dinner. Thanks to Auntie Annette and family for putting us up, we had good fun staying with you!
We had a couple of days on our own staying in Perth before we picked up our camper van for our onward travels. We went back to Kings Park and had a picnic and walked round more of the city. Perth is a nice city, we both really like it, it doesn't seem as busy as Melbourne and Sydney which is a nice change sometimes. We also went to Caversham Wildlife Park. This was our first look at some real Aussie wildlife. We saw kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, koalas, tasmanian devils, dingos etc etc! We even got to stroke the kangaroos and a koala which was good. It was so nice to see some live kangaroos because so far since being in Australia the only ones we have seen have been dead on the side of the road!
Perth was also where we saw some real Australian weather, what we had been expecting to get when we arrived! It reaches 40 degrees quite a lot here, very hot!
