Sugoy! We had a fantastic day today!
Free breakfast at the Anne Hostel was a good way to start, and soon after that we made our way down to Shibuya, the centre for "hip youth culture". The first thing that we did here was disarm a bank by getting their security guard to leave his post and give us directions - luckily we weren't bankrobbers then!
Shibuya is the home of the insane crossing featured on the news occasionally where a free-for-all of chaos erupts as people try to cross the street all at the same time. We took part in this crossing about three times over the course of the day! We found a number of shops on the way to getting lunch - the best of which was a used clothes shop where Joe and I dressed up in whatever we could find.
We wandered past all the love-hotels to get to O-West, which was where the J-Pop concert we wanted to watch was being held. The task of getting tickets has, unfortunately, proven too much for us so far.
Then we set off to find the statue of the faithful dog Hachiko, who was a dog who waited for his master every day at the train station, even after his master passed away. The dog continued waiting until it too passed away, ten years later! (More info ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D)
After listening to J-pop and navigating the largest music store I've ever seen and a manga dungeon, we trekked into Harujuka and visited the Meiji shrine (part of which is pictured here!) The place was amazing, from the huge gates, through the dark forrests, and the shrine itself. Following this, we walked down a crazy popular street by the station which overflowed with shops and foodstands; quite a change of scenery!
Tonight we also watched the Japanese film "The Magic Hour" which was really funny, and ate - gasp! - a chicken salad for dinner :o We've now booked all of our accomodation for the rest of the month, including Asia's Number One Hotel at the end of our stay.
I'd best go now; we have an early start for the fish market tommorrow - we're setting our alarms for half past six! Eurgh!
