Day 6- Its never too early for a Chang!
Day six begins with another early start, but after a good nights sleep this wasn't an issue! The French owner of the garden phuket hotel in patong was a real gent and booked us on the morning ferry to phi phi, hence the early start, we caught a mini bus at the hotel to take us to the pier for the ferry departing at 08.45! Hell was it hot sat on the deck of this ferry even that early in the morning! With this in mind I decided it was time for a beer at 9am, hence the title of this update! One of the best beers ever, even though it was singha for me (they ran out of chang somehow before 09:30), an early morning beer on holiday is so satisfying! We really caught some rays on this boat as the sun is out with not a cloud in the sky, i'm nicely bronzed after that, Becky is starting to look a little bit like a lobster! We then had a nice surprise after first thinking this was just a ferry to the bigger phi phi don, it took us for a little tour around phi phi lay, where the beach beach is! We took lots of photos of this place, I can honestly say its one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen! As we carried on around the island before we docked there were many other boats and the like, touring round the island. Then I had a bit of a thought about boats, why is it when people are on a boat and there are other boats around they instinctively wave at you?? What is it about boats that does this to people? You wouldn't wave at people that you don't know out of your car or a bus! Think about last time you were on a boat, I bet you waved didn't you? After a bit of a chuckle about this we had arrived on phi phi don! There was a porter from the bungalow we'd booked waiting on the pier to take us and our bags to the bungalow! This bungalow is very basic and a bit grubby
with just a bed a shower and a toilet which are outside... but to be fair it was just what we were looking for after staying in a little too much luxury for 'travelling' standards over the past few days! It's about 20yards walk to one of the most gorgeous crystal clear blue sea beaches I've ever seen so that's a nice bonus. Anyway after we'd settled in and had another Chang, we decided to have a bit of an explore of the town, have a spot of lunch and do some souvenir shopping! I needed to get Ellie her Thailand souvenir which I did, not going to reveal what it is because she's reading this... I also want to get a 'same same but different' T-shirt, don't worry I have no idea what it means either... It's a Thai slogan apparently... Never heard of it until I came here! Just as we're leaving having lunch it starts to rain and we hear a bit of thunder, so that's the beach off the table for the afternoon! So we rack our brains deciding what to do for the afternoon, Becky decides on a Thai massage, I decide on sitting in the bar next door and have a few bottles of Chang!! After an hour or so of supping, I headed back to the bungalow for a bit of a rest out on the little 'terrace' we have, but the Mosquitos had other ideas, after liberal application of repellant I still got quite a few bites which wasn't desperately fun but no surprise really, we knew what to expect coming here! Later listening to music on the terrace, we share headphones and they don't fit her ear properly so Becky says she'll hook it round her "labia", "oh no that's not the right word is it?" I say, "no it isn't and please don't hook it round that" another classic Becky blonde moment!!
After this we decide to head out into phi phi town and get some supper, booze and boogieing! After a delicious supper we head across the street to an 'jordan's Irish bar', apart from having a few Irish flags and a couple of shamrocks up in the place I can't quite make out what makes it Irish, it's just a normal bar with Chang on draft and buckets of various booze for sale! But that's irrelevant, the Chang flows and the music is loud so we don't care!! But then gangnam style comes on and infects us with its virus and we're dancing at our table like idiots! Large bottles of Chang are proper naughty water! In this bar we see a European (British, German or whatever...) bloke dancing with a Thai lass, she seems a little too keen to be a 'real' girl, he's loving it! He's definitely not realising she's a lady(boy) of the night, We don't tell him because its too funny to ruin it for us!
We then head to woodys bar by the bungalow and attempt to boogie the night away! Since we were told we may want to move from the bungalow to their sister hotel because of the noise we figure we might as well be part of it instead of being disturbed by it!
See if you can Count how many times I've said Chang in this update and the first person to comment the correct answer on Facebook gets a shiny 10 baht coin when I get home! Lucky you!!
Thanks for reading!
