Days 3 and 4 - Thai Hard
So day 3 begins with a VERY early start because we had to get to the airport for our flight to koh samui! It was only a VERY early start because I, like an idiot had us getting up and leaving an hour before we needed to! Oh how we could have used that extra hour! Due to jet lag I couldn't get to sleep until about 4 in the morning, with our alarm set for half 6... Anyway, we got the flight from Bangkok to koh samui, now koh samui airport can only be described as beach huts on the Tarmac, it's the smallest airport I've ever seen! the best part was the mini trains like you get in seaside resorts doing tours! The airport puts on minibuses to take folk to their hotels and what not and after a five minute trip we were at our hotel! We really struck gold with this place, after only booking it the day before we were not sure what to expect, but wow does it deliver! The view out to sea and out to koh phangan is gorgeous! The There are two piers either side of the beach, running ferries and speed boats over to koh phangan which was bloody handy for us since we were off to the full moon party. We decided to go for a speed boat over to koh phangan, it was dear to be honest but worth it for the trip out and back from the party!
Now to the full moon party! WOW!! If I said kaosan road was like all the major european party resorts with a lot of asian spice, this was like all the major european party resorts with a lot of asian spice, on ecstasy!! What an experience, it's one of the most surreal things I've ever seen, 20-30,000 people drunk out of their minds! We saw some sights let me tell you! Men twice the size of me with their tops off with boobs bigger than just about all the women there, I wish I had that little shame... Another rather portly gentleman properly doing the splits, a couple attempting to fornicate in the sea, which by that time had been peed in by the vast majority of the men at the party! The place is also a health and safety man's dream...or nightmare I can't figure that one out. Blokes spinning fire around everywhere, fireworks going off all over and the slide which comes off the top of one of the bars right onto the beach! Several bottles of Chang later, a lot of boogieing and exhaustion setting in from three and a half hours sleep in 42 hours we decided to call it a night just as it began to rain!! So we went to bed for some MUCH needed rest, ready for a chill out day on the beach in bo phut!
So the beginning of day four begins with a lie in and a spot of lunch. Becky ate Thai food, the fussiest man in the world was very tempted by it but decided on something more familiar and promised to have something Thai for supper!! Then to the beach to top up the tan, a couple of hours out in it is enough as the sun is very strong!! We spent a lot of time watching very bleary eyed people stepping off the ferry from koh phangan, we were so glad of the speed boat at that moment! We also noticed a stretcher and a medical team walking up the pier when one of the ferries was coming in to pick up an injured reveller, he came off the boat bandaged all over and on a drip, seems he may have been burned pretty badly, shows the dangers of the full moon party! On a lighter note there were some comedy lines coming from the brain of Becky today. I'll set the scene... We see a speed boat pull up to the beach... Becky: "I wonder what they're doing, what are those canisters they're taking off for?" Me: "they're scuba tanks!" Becky: "oh! I thought they were smuggling beer". I was speechless, she goes on to say "when someone else says it that sounds really stupid, but when I think it and say it, it sounds completely normal" the mind boggles it really does!
After this amusement was over, we decided to walk down the beach to the Big Buddha, this was a sight to behold, 15 metres of massive gold sitting Buddha, it was very impressive! Another jaunt along the road back to the hotel for some Thai food, cocktails and await the long journey over to Phuket for a spot of island hopping tomorrow!
Happy Halloween everyone!
Thanks for reading!
