We've arrived in Bangkok!! The flight out as we expected was LONG and as I've told most of you who will read this, I cannot sleep well at all on planes!! This flight was no exception, on an 11 hour night flight I perhaps had an hour and a half max! There is an upside to this though, it means that if I can stay awake long enough on the night of arrival, it reduces my jet lag!! Yay!! Flight itself was funny as the Asian lad sitting next to Becky had no spacial awareness or any elegance when gettig up or returning to his seat which meant the people in front and behind had a rougher ride than if the plane was flying through severe turbulence!
Upon arriving at the airport we were through passport control in no time and retrieved our luggage and as soon as we got through to the main arrivals hall, we were immediately set upon by an airport official telling is where to get a taxi, but as many people in Thailand do, he had an alterior motive in trying to sell us a private car ride around the city for $80us! He was promptly told where to go... Getting to the taxi rank was also interesting as it seems we were filmed for a Thai music video or something!! (Keep checking Thai MTV to see if we appear). The taxi to the hotel was interesting to say the least, car, bus and lorry drivers all seem to stick to the same policy (on a 5 lane motorway don't drive in any particular lane, just go wherever...). Now to the hotel, there is only one word to describe it...INCREDIBLE!! Definately worth the extra money to stay here but the thing is you couldn't even get a travel lodge back home for the money we're paying for this place! The service is amazing with extreme attention to detail in every department!! As we'd sat through an 11 hour flight we decided to eat in the hotel instead of marching for a while trying to find something we'd both like as we're both picky as hell and I have to say I'm glad we did because it was incredible, I'd like to quote Homer Simpson to express how good it was, "Marge, this is Thai food, from now on I want it morning, noon and night!" After this we decided to head up to the sky bar for a drink! This is where they filmed some of the hangover 2 where Mr Chow has his meeting with the Interpol guy! This was an amazing place with spectacular views of the entire city, drinks were a little expensive but worth it for the scenery!! After this, full stomachs and a lack of sleep on my part forced us to turn in for the night and await the joys that day 2 in Bangkok shall bring!!!
Thanks for reading!
