Hello everyone and welcome finally to my blog from now until I settle down, get a 'proper job' and proper responsibilities. Firstly, I should apologise for promising this and not delivering sooner. I am blaming the lack of internet access at the apartments. The missing part for the wireless router has been 'on order' since I have been here - 3 weeks now!. I am currently sitting in the marina bar which has free but slow wi-fi, writing this. It has taken considerable planning to remember to pack my laptop as it would take forever and a day on my phone. Anyway enough ranting...
I arrived here on Tuesday 9th March and I cannot believe it has been 3 weeks already. I thought the days would go slowly because the boats were not in the water and I was still finding my feet. I was so wrong. There were about 20 guys here for the first week and then the hostesses arrived and now there are about 40 staff members here. Pete and I are being boring right now browsing the internet but outside there is about 20 staff all in a big circle chatting. That is why it is so difficult to get anything done on the internet here. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and they all drink like fish. I think about 3/4 are returning staff and 1/4 are new, which is a fantastic ratio. Already I can see why people come back here and it is not for the money! The camaraderie, the fact that everyone is living either on their lead boats or in the apartment, the location and alcohol are all involved. Even the staff were skippers and engineers themselves a few years ago (and a bit) and hence are the most approachable management I have ever met.
You have not missed anything though these past three weeks. I have been doing tasks on the two training boats (36ft Dehlers) and polishing 10 recently acquired boats. They are ex-flotilla boats from another company and after polishing them I stuck 4 stickers on each boat with the sailing holidays logo. I am, now, the MASTER at sticking stickers on boats without air holes and they are straight as well.
The photos were taken on Sundays (now our only day off) when we took the 'bus' around the island for a tour. I am not in the habit of taking my camera with me so I am lacking photos but when the sailing starts in about 3-4 weeks then I will have many more.
SO, all is well, but has been the same until today, which you can read about in my next blog! Which I am going to write right now!!!
