My Roommate- The first week of classes -CHURCH
I know I know?I haven't posted any blog in a long time and y'all are probably wondering if I was captured by the VC, lost in the jungle or maybe I am just not used to blogging.
Anyway, a lot has happened.First I met my roommate, Loi, a week this Sunday. He is a pretty cool guy; like me in many respects- easy going and laid back.He his very busy with school and work (he teaches and tutors English most nights) so we really don't have much time to hang out. However, he did creep me out one night. For a couple of days this week my allergies were really getting to me.Runny nose, watery itchy eyes, and I even had a touch of vertigo.David, one of the Zu Hoppers (that's what I call all of us study abroad people) anyway, he really wanted me to take some Benadril to put me out of my misery. Finally, I fulfilled his wish and took some Benadril about 5:30 Tuesday night.Well that jus made me drowsy, so I went to bed.Man, I was passed out cold; it was the best sleep I have ever had.Nothing could wake me up.Every once in a while I would open my eyes when I would move around in my bed, find the right position, then fall back asleep. One time when I was trying moving around, I glanced up and noticed Loi just sitting in the chair across from my bed staring at me.For how long and why, I have no idea. But it was a little disconcerting.
Oh?this week was the first week of classes! Yeah!Monday, all of us took Vietnamese placement tests to see which class we would start in.Can you guess were they put me?Advanced!I was very reluctant because it had been almost 3 years since I had taken any Vietnamese courses, and I personally did not think that I was up to the challenge.Including myself, there are 2 other students in the class both of Vietnamese descent. After a week in the class, I think that I will do just fine.It is taking me a lot of brain power to remember words and ways to express myself.I have a hard time understand what is being asked when teachers ask me questions. But other than that I really like the teachers, they know their stuff.
CHURCH!!! I just got back from church today.Man I forgot how much I miss it.The Spirit of the Lord was definitely there.I did not know what to expect once I got there.Well I sent Aaron, my old MTC teacher, a text message asking him what time and where church meets. He called me back and told me to go to Siêu Th? An Phú and someone will meet me there. So, I hopped on a xe om and for 30,000 VND he gave me a ride.It was probably about 20 minutes away.Once I got there I waited about 15 minutes then called Aaron. Then 5 minutes later, a skinny white man with a scraggly beard and pony tail shows up on an old beat up motor cycle.Could that be him?I thought. Then upon closer inspection, his face became more recognizable.
The church was just a ways down the street in a big orange house. When I walked in, I felt at home and a peaceful feeling came over me.I knew I was in the right place.I quickly found a spot to sit down, and not long after I arrived sacrament meeting started.Much to my surprise I found out that the mission president and his wife were visiting and speaking in sacrament meeting!
Looking around the congregation, I noticed that the room was practically full, and most of those in attendance were Vietnamese. After church, a member Cô Nga was already putting me to use.She asked me to help her teach a lesson to an investigator on Tuesday. So it looks like need to brush up on my missionary teaching skills.
I will keep y'all posted on how my meeting went.Till next time.
