We were a bit slow to get going this morning. Breakfast is provided at the hotel (and it's a big hotel, so breakfast was pretty crazy this morning!) and we it took us a while to decide what to do. As it was a weekend, we thought we'd head out to Coney Island and see whether anything was on. So we rode the subway for half an hour to find an absolutely deserted, derilicted, freezing Coney Island. And their Brighton Beach is only slightly more inviting than the English version - it might be sand here, but you have to dodge the broken glass too!
We then decided to head into the New York Aquarium, which is down on the Coney Island foreshore, for a bit of warmth. Some of the exhibits were closed so we got complimentary tickets to go back before April 11th....anyone know anyone coming to New York before then and want free aquarium tickets?? They have a couple of Pacific walrus' (the biggest was a female named Zoe who weighs 1800lbs!!) and a brilliant jellyfish and sea anenome section. They have a few different types of seals, some penguins, sharks, turtles but not many rays. Still nice to look around for a few hours.
We then headed to the tkts booth in Times Square to see if we could get cheap tickets to a show. We wanted Promises, Promises but it was sold out so ended up getting tickets to American Idiot. We then went to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner but there was an hour to an hour and a half wait so we put our names down and went shopping!! Bought a few bits and pieces (no idea how I am going to squeeze everything in already!!) and then headed back to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. It was quite nice (we had some good cocktails) and the enterntainment was provided by the guy clearing the tables. This guy could clear a table in about a minute, carrying everything left on it in one go (these tables sat 6 people). It was mainly glasses and a couple of plates, but he was very good!!
We then headed to the theatre for American Idiot. It was in an older theatre that was really nice (beautiful, huge chandeliers) but was quite cramped - my knees were stuck right into the chair behind. American Idiot was.....um, different. All the cast were amazing! But it had a weird plot and was a bit depressing. But can't complain with Green Day music! (and all the cast played guitars and sang 'Time of Your Life' as an encore which was great!!). Then straight back to the hotel to do washing....how exciting for a Saturday night in NYC! Just waiting for it to finish now =)
