Day seven was a rest day in very warm Saumur. Overnight the temperature dropped 15c and the wind turned to the north east. Not good news as that was directly into my face.
On Friday I did a very (too) long day of 75 m/120 k. Got lost as I switched to my new map and then found the wind a real obstacle. I stopped to help a young French couple who had a flat but no pump. Quite why you would travel without a pump I'm not sure but in any case I was able to do my helpful English visitor bit.
Arrived exhausted at a place that bore a passing resemblance to Bates Motel. Still, after 75 miles it looked homely. Ambois a pleasant place, I'd have liked to have looked around properly.
Day nine deliberately shorter, 49m/78k. Still the nagging north wind, only me in shorts, most of the locals appear dressed for a blizzard. I re-check the weather forecast.
Occasionally the river bend means the wind is at my back and I shoot along for half a mile. Ninety nine percent of the time it is in my face though.
Beaugency a really nice little place, I'll be back. Good meal too.
Cumulative mileage starting to grow, 424m/678k.
