London to The Black Sea
About Andy
Decision time
I cycled out of Novi Sad up a five mile incline climbing The Holy Mountain. A 500m climb leaves you sweaty even on a cool day but I soon dried off with a long downhill across countryside. At the first major village I met Helene and Sebastien a very nice French couple in their early 30's who are travelling with two very young …
The aim; To cycle unsupported across Europe from London to the Black Sea. Roughly 3000miles/4500km. Eleven countries in around nine weeks including rest days.
The Route takes me down to Portsmouth, across Brittany to join The Loire. Then upto through Switzerland into Southern Germany where I pick up the Danube and broadly follow that all the way to The Black Sea through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania. No accomodation booked ahead, just see where th…

re: The Retail Environment Changes Within 20 Miles Of Budapestrichardf Give my regards to Dame Edna, put another shrimp on the barbie etc.
re: Vienna, AustriaJenny Mottram I am sure it would be quite a different type of cycle if David joined you for some of it. Visiting a few wine taverns on route I am sure.
re: Vienna, AustriaDavid Well hello.....Reynolds here. bet you never thought I would master the technology! In my mind, Austria conjures up the grape varieties indigenous to that country. Gruner Vetliner is known amongst the wine tasting fraternity as "Groovy", be sure to try some of that. My personal favourite is Blaufrankish, a robsut, if not brutal red to be enjoyed with the kind of cut a good vet could bring back. Hats off to you Andy, let the wheelskeepturning!
re: Vienna, AustriaJames Don't forget Ludwig Wittgenstein! Famous Philosopher from Vienna (though of course he had to come to Britain to get going) and he was the sort of guy who would back up the 'arrogant and unfriendly' impression, too
re: Vienna, AustriaDamian So! I have briefly calculated you have a little under half a million pedal turns to go before Constanta! A very enjoyable 300 miles of scenic cycling and strudels. Good luck with the rest and lack of 'rest', D (ps Some of the sums on this message leaving blog section would be a little tricky without a calculator for a few people I have interviewed!)
re: Vienna, Austriarichardf pedalling not peddling. peddling is flogging things like dead horses.
