London to The Black Sea
Days 1-3. 130 miles/ 208 km
Two and a half days cycling to get from home to Portsmouth. I thought about doing it in two but I'm pleased I went for the soft option, the combination of the weight on the bike and a bit of a westerly wind took some getting used to. The fact that I had to cross The Chilterns and the North and South Downs made it a good decision. Trying to stand up and peddle on hills with a 45ilb load is an interesting experience, you wobble.
Found my way around the busy roads south west of London and then on into some really enjoyable cycling in Hampshire on day two. Final approach into Portsmouth is distinctly unfriendly to cyclists though.
Now for an overnight in my cabin on the St. Malo ferry, after a good dinner that is.
