We are Sailing
We were on our way to Poros, Cheryl and I kicked back on our milkshakes we purchased before we left. Then all of a sudden we heard this big bang, and we came to a abrupt halt. We hit a limestone reef. (****, maybe we shouldn't have Eaten those big breakfasts!) We quickly realised what had happened, Brian threw Flight 2 into reverse, but we didn't seem to want to go anywhere. Stuart organised everybody to hang by their toes on the starboard side of the boat. This had the effect of tilting the boat, and lifting the keel off the reef. Well done Stuart it worked. Brian did a great job getting the boat backed off, and out of harms way. Of course we really didn't know if we had done any damage (there was nerve damage). It took Stuart all of about a poofteenth of a second to volunteer to swim under the boat to check it out. It was a scary sight, there will be no fish in that part of the ocean for a few generations. But in Stuarts usual professional manner, he did what he had to do, and we were cleared for take off. When we analysed what we had done, it was our fault, as we had our CMAPS wrongly set, and we completely'missed this particularly annoying obstacle.
The sail seemed to lack any excitement from there on. It was hard to top. About 2/3 of the way into the trip, Cheryl took over the helm. It was her first time, and she did a great job getting the boat close to Poros. Once we got within range of the Marina we handed Flight back to Brian. We did a bit of a reco to find a mooring, got chased up the bay by a ferry from Athens, but eventually we found a mooring. The mooring is opposite a Cafe, and the owner helped us moor by throwing the ropes back to us. In Aegina we were 15m from the Cafe strip, tonight I think we are about 15 inches. So good.
We tied up and had a quick lunch. Stuarts ambition was to go the very famous Epidavros amphitheater, situation high in the hills 25 minutes from Poros. So we caught a little ferry (loos like little toot) across to the other side of the island, and then a taxi to Epidavros. The drive took us through some of the most breathtaking country we had seen to date. Brian and Di didn't come because they had to meet the marina lady at 6 to do the paperwork. The taxi driver was great because we got all the local knowledge. Once at the amphitheater, we gave it a good looking over. It truly is amazing, look it up on google. Built about 4BC, it was used by the Romans as a place of healing. The amplification is so good, that you can drop a coin on a special rock in the middle of the stage, and you can here it in the top row. You can clearly hear people talk from the top row. Another architectural masterpiece. The trip back was as pleasant as the trip up. After catching little toot back again, we caught up with Brian and Di for a well earned drink or two. It has been a great day. Now it is time for shows and then our 15 inch walk to the Cafe. Tea was nice, not one of the best.'After another short walk back to the boat to Relax. Stuart has been playing his guitar while I write this blogg,'and it sounds great as usual. Well it is 11.30 an time for me to go to bed. Not sure where we are going tomorrow, but I Have no doubt it will be great.

Tina Whitton Oh how memories come flooding back of my time in Poros. It was my first holiday with my girlfriend after I split from my first husband and I loved every minute of it. Beautiful place and although some of the beaches were not the best it was a fantastic trip. Sounds as though you are having a great time and I'm so jealous. I'm dashing off to book a holiday for myself now - probably Bali which will make someone happy!!!
