We are Sailing
Today was about getting Flight II going so we can move onto Santorini. We have had boats moving in and out all day, and because it is so windy we have continually been worried that they will hit us. I did another swim and dive this morning to check the anchor. All was well. We found the auto electrician this morning, and also the Marine dealer, but we had no luck in getting the ignition parts we need. So it looks like we will be hot wiring the motor until Lex and Sue bring the part over from Fremantle. Once we got all the boat stuff out the way, we then had time to go down town and discover it a little more closely. Once you get off the main road running along the marina, you find this whole new town of tiny little streets and lanes all with crazy type paving. It really is a pretty sight, these beautiful white and blue buildings, with bougainvilleas, grapevines and Tacoma's adding lots of colour, and giving a cool shaded look, which is needed in the hottest part of the day.
Earlier in the day, when Brian and I were looking for the locksmith, came across this nice little restaurant in one of the small lanes. Outside of the restaurant, there was one of the little donkeys the locals use for delivering goods. I walked past, thinking it was a statue, but then it moved which startled me. Honestly it was the cutest animal I've seen in a long. Tiny and so obedient. It good to see these animals, there is also a very old duck that lives at the port, and the fishermen look after it. It wanders up and down, checking everything out. I can't see that happening at home.'Some numb skull would want to hurt it.
Brian, returned to the boat after lunch, and the girls explored their new treasure trove of shops. I had time to go and visit the local museum. It was very good, and most of the artifacts were from around 400BC. This island is quite well renowned for its antiquities.
We all eventually returned to the boat, and had a rest, a few beers etc, and got cleaned up for tea. Once again we found this beautiful restaurant in one of the back lanes, a little more up market tonight. The food was excellent. It was then time to head back to the boat, getting an ice cream on the way.'....and I'm in trouble once again because I spilt chocolate on my white shirt.
Coincidentally, as we were coming back, there was another super motor boat in the marina. It was the Zaliv III (google it) . We took a closer look at it, and it was sensational. Theres the Rich, and then the mega rich. Well it is now 10.50pm and we have a 5 am start for our 48nms trip to Santorini. Hopefully we will be there by lunchtime, and we can get a mooring. They do not take bookings, and usually it is very busy this time of the year.
