We are Sailing
Well what a day this has been. The day started out well, Cheryl and managed to find the supermarket and bakery with out getting lost. By the time we got back Brian and Stuart had the yacht readied for sailing. We were off to Paros or so we thought. The actual sail was reasonable, we had a tail wind this time which meant that we could do some jibing. The sea was still a little lumpy, and after yesterdays effort I notice I wasn't offered the opportunity to be Captain again. :( Anyway about half way through the trip after Brian woke up from his sleep, he looked at the CMaps, and then said to Stuart, I think we are going to the wrong Island. I mean after all the careful planning over the few beers they had, you'd actually think they would get that right! So a sharp right hand turn, and we were headed for Paros, rather than Nexos. Paros is the first of the Islands where you see the postcard pictures of white houses and blue roofs. The berthing of the yacht again went without incident, though The "other" 2 boys decided to rigg up the gangplank in a different way, to make it easier for the girls to walk.Good thought, but execution leaves left a little to be desired. We had a few beers, as it was very hot, and we watch some young guys having sailing lessons on the bay. Given the fact that it was 4 pm, we felt like some lunch. We left Stuart and Heather on the boat to make a few phone calls. Down to Nickies Restaurant fro a quick bite to eat, then off to explore the town. The town actually had a very nice beach, which was pretty packed out.... and of course you could help but notice the lovely beach volley ball players. (Brian told me about them, I did see a thing). We made our way back to the boat, and as we did we passed Stuart along the way. He was off to have a swim. Heather had already made off to somewhere. But when we got back we notice the back of the boat was lightly hitting the pier. Quickly we jumped on went to start the motor, and lo and behold the key would turn. It wouldn't budge at all. So quickly we had to pull on the anchor with the winch, to take the boat forward and grabbed the ropes and sorted out. We all settled back to relax, by which time Stuart had returned. We started planning out the next day, particularly making sure we were going to end up in Santorini, rather than somewhere in South East Asia. Brian had decided to pull out the ignition assembly to find out why the key wouldn't move. It was a relatively new assembly. We couldn't work it out, so we wandered down to the Chandlry to see if we could get some help. Got the name of the auto sparky to visit tomorrow. We returned to the yacht once more, and continued with our planning. However, Stuart all of a sudden noticed we were drifting back into the pier once again. We were in deep ..it as we had no motor. Chaos just followed, as we needed to tie Flight to the boats either side of us that were anchored. Brian and Stuart and the girls did a great job. The boats next door were also excellent.
