We are Sailing
The trip from Dubai took a reasonable 4hours. We arrived at 1.30. By the time we got through customs it was about 2.30pm.
We arrived at the hotel Herodian at aaprox 4.00pm. During the drive from the airport we were able to see glimpses of Athens, the good and the bad. The freeway was very good. The taxi driver very friendly and helpful. He took the time to explain the situation Greece was in at the moment, and mentioned that tourism is about 40% down on last year. Poor media has lead people to believe that Athens is a little unstable to visit. But in reality, you feel very safe walking around. It is a shame realy, because the Greek people need the tourist money, but the tourists have been turned against them for no real reason.
After we checked into the Hotel, we went and did a little shopping for beer and other necessities. Then it was time to relax a little, so we went to the roof of the hotel and enjoyed the view from the decked area. The Hotel is situated directly below the Acropolis, and next door to the new Athens museum. The view from the deck was awesome, and I couldn't wait to see the Acropolis up close.
We left the deck after having a couple of wines and beer, though with my upset stomach I was restricted to water. Hmmm not good. Brian and Diane knew of some good eating places in the Plaka area of Athens, which is an area that is reserved for the tourists. We had a beatiful meal, and retired to the hotel early to catch up on some sleep, in readiness for a day of sightseeing tomorrow.
