Today was the first full day in Chiang
Mai and we spent it up in the mountains but unfortunately this means rain rain and more rain. Our first activity was mountain biking. It was a pretty tough ride as it was through muddy jungle roads, made even muddier by the rain. The rain however was quite handy as it kept us cool and made getting muddy more enjoyable.
The second activity was the one I was looking forward to the most. Riding an Elephant. We went out in a group of 5 adult elephants and a wee baby elephant tagging along beside its mum. Great fun, if just a little scary when going up and down almost vertical muddy slopes! Half way we got the opportunity to feed our elephant bananas and sugar cane and they were definitely hungry, shovelling the food away with their trunks. I was so amazed at how precise they are with their trunks! Once back to the base camp we had a photo opportunity with the baby, cuddling up to it as we fed it.
The final activity was white water rafting. Down a river with grades 2-4 in it. Again the rain was poaring but as it was got rain it warmed you back up after getting soaked in the rapids.
After all this we were both totally knackered by the activities but still made it out to a Thai restaurant that we then became regulars at.
