Left this morning by bus to the Veneto. Got off @ Piazzale Roma and walked through the lanes and over Rialto Bridge towards San Marco Square. Once we go tthere we had a bit of free time to look around so what do me and the girls do? We go to McDonalds for breakfast haha. Turns out they dont do breakfast so we just ended up with burgers.
After that we went to meet our tour guide which we ended up sharing with another TopDeck group which made the whole thing really big and you couldn't even hear her (even with her microphone). She ended up only taking us around The Bridge of Sighs, Doges Palace and another church behind San Marco Basilica. Pretty much a waste of time and money in my opinion, TopDeck should rethink this guided tour...
After that we went for a gondola ride which was very nice and relaxing, a great way to see the Veneto and the little canals. Then we went to a lace school where we were given a little talk about the history of lace in Venice, bought some souveniers here for family.
We then grabbed a bite to eat before heading to the port for our boat trip to Murano, Burano and Torcello. Funny thing happened when the lady said she would call us when the boat came, but the boat ended up leaving without us. Dario got so angry and the boat ended up turning around after Dario told the lady to call it to come back (luckily it had not gone too far). What cracked us up was him getting so worked up and swearing under his breath: "F*** you and your sister!" in his italian accent.
We got to Murano and saw a glass blowing demo and then bought some murano glass earings. Then we went to Burano where there was a lace making demo also, but we had already seen it so me, J, C, Katie, Dean and Dario just ended up walking around the town. Quite a cute little town with really colourful buildings.
Then we went to Torcelllo, a tiny island with a population of about 24 people and 1 church. We walked to the church and ended up sitting on the grass outside chatting. Dario kept imitating the tour guide on the boat who said we had to return at 5:25. She sounded like she was saying 'HWIVE TWANTY HWWWWIVE', and Darios imitation was an absolute crack up.
After Torcello we headed back to San Marco Square and had Chinese for dinner. Food was ok but portions were pretty small. Dario and Dean ended up learning from us how to say goodbye /hello in mandarin but Dario says goodbye like a little child and has this wierd lip/smile at the end of it. I actually have it on video so will post that up sometime.
After dinner we went back to hotel via Vaporetto and bus. Once we reached the hotel, we saw that Katies singlet ended up hanging on a street sign that was below her balcony haha. We then went to find the internet cafe which was 500m down the road, (not 50, or 100m like 2 other people that told us the day before, no wonder we couldnt find it!)
