Left early this morning for Sorrento via Pompeii. Pompeii was amazing, it is an old Roman city that was buried when Mt Vesuvius exploded like hell and was only rediscoverd in the 1700s. Its as old as Jesus but the buildings and facilities the Romans built back then were so skilled. There were the ampitheatres, temples built to worships gods, old bar and 'fast food' type places, old 'pizzeria' with grinder that ground grains. Then there was the stones raised on the roads that are like pedestrian crossings but were raised because Pompeii had an open sewerage system that ran down roads.
There is also a brothel that have stone penis's carved on the side of the buildings to show they were brothels. Inside there are paintings on the wall like the Karma Sutra to show what customers could request. The rooms were just a stone bed. On other parts of the town you can find again stone penises on the ground with it pointin in the direction of the brothel to show people how to get there.
The whole of Pompeii is only 1/3 excavated because they realise once dug up, it is exposed to the elements. So more will be excated later for future generations.
After Pompeii we left for Sorrento passing through Napoli in the distance. Driving into Sorrento was so beautiful as we got a pretty nice view of it on the way in. From the distance it looks like the buildings are built right on top of the cliff. Our room has an awesome view (although the room isnt the flashiest).
After dinner at the hotel a bunch of us walked to town trying not to get run over in the process due to the windy roads and no footpath. The shopping looked pretty good so might go back tomorrow if theres time. We went to a garden bar which kinda looked like someones backyard and had a wierd lady that walked around in her nightgown. There was also the old lady that shoved a basil leaf almost up Sasa's nose and told him to 'Smell! Smell!' It was so funny because she pretty much came up from behind him and did it without any warning.
After that we walked back to the hotel (again trying not to get run over by traffic). Going to go swimming tomorrow in Capri! can't wait!
