Woke up early this morning to visit the Cinque Terre (5 villages). First village stop was Riomaggiore, a small town which we didnt see much of becaus it was only 8amish and everything was pretty much still closed. We then walked from Riomaggiore to Manarola, the 2nd village via Via dell'Amore (Road of Love). Along the way there are love notes left on plants/walls by couples.
We got to Manarola where Jess bought a disposable camera (poor girl forgot her digital camera at one of the most beautiful places in Italy!). The village was quite nice and they have boats on the sides of streets. On our way next to Corniglia (village no.3) we walked on the path where we stopped midway to see a church + cemetary & we also took a windy photo with hair flying everywhere (not sure if those photos will ever see the light of day because they are hilariously funny!). In Corniglia there didnt seem to be much so we took a quick photo to show we had been there then took a train to Vernazza.
Once we got to Vernazza (village no. 4), we walked down the main street which led us to the port area. It started pissing down with rain at this point and we hid under an umbrella at a gelataria before making a dash for a cafe. We decided to have breakfast so ordered an omelette (dont have eggs much, missed it heaps!), then the rain started pouring again so we sat for longer and just chilled for a bit. The owner of the cafe (Blue Marlin Cafe), his name is Massimo and is such an enigmatic type of person. Really funny andslightly scary as he sort of tells the customers off for not paying attention or not sitting in the ride spot etc. He told jess off for texting haha. He told me the name of my favourite tree in Italy, the Agave, and he also told us to walk up the hill to get a good view of Vernazza.
We walked up to the cemetary and indeed the view was spectacular. We then walked further up the hill where there was supposed to be a park witha big cypress tree but after 20-30min of waliking we bumped into 2 girls coming down the hill and they said there was nothign much up there. So we walked all the way back down and bumped into Alex, Jules etc and found out they were rained on walking from Corniglia to Vernazza (you can train or walk the whole of Cinque Terre). Poor guys, some even had to buy new clothes.
We then caught the train to Monterosso (village no. 5) and this place is more beachy and somewhat Croatia-like. We then thought we could train to Levanto before coming back to Monterosso to sunbathe, bu once we got to Levanto it was such a boring place. We left on the next train back to Monterosso and we went to grab a bite to eat. After that we went to sunbathe but the tide kept coming in then going out, we werent sure what was going on. It was also spitting a litttle so we decided to head back to La Spezia for dinner.
After heading back to La Spezia we showered and then found a restaurant called Restorante d'Angelo which was very good. We got bought a bottle of Asti by the Italian guys next to our table which was very sweet of them. We also got given some limoncello to finish our meal with. Tonights meal was SO big, all 4 of us (me, J, C and Claire) left the restaurant almost not being able to breath.
