Wine towns and Roman ruins -
The last few days have been spent visiting the wine towns of the southern Rhone river valley and the amazing Roman ruins in the area. For the wine lovers in the group, I can highly recommend the wines from Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Sablet and Rasteau. And they are a little more affordable than Burgundy and Bordeaux given the current exchange rate.
As for ruins, the amphitheatre in Orange is incredible. It's still in use today and has perfect acoustics for all 9000 audience members. The ruins of a Roman city at Vaison-la-Romaine are also very interesting. There's a Roman bridge there that survived a flood that killed several hundred people in the 90's and destroyed the two modern bridges just downstream.
Tomorrow will be a sad day. All of my friends return to their normal lives and I'll be setting out on my own to make my way back to Paris by bike. So send me an e-mail or post a message here if you have the chance, as I could use the company!
