Day 4- 28th June
Woke up @ 4:30am to meet our tuk tuk guide (Tom) for our adventure to the temples of Angkor.
It was cold and dark, but we were told it's better to go to the temples early in the morning, so that we can see the sunrise and that it will be a long day with lots of temples to see.
First we had to buy our ticket at the cost of USD20 and have our picture taken which comes up on our ticket.
Tom dropped us off at the first temple called Angkor Wat and told us to meet him 2 hours later. When we got inside the temple, there was a man who gave us a stick that gives off a wisp of smoke that smells and to pray at a statue (one like budda) we assumed that we had to do this as a sign of respect, but then afterwards we had to pay him which was cheeky as we didnt know about that and the fact that we didnt have to do what he wanted, but anyhow ross managed to get some pictures and it all looked good, so we're not complaining too much - a lesson learned. The Temple was massive. We got there on time to see the sunrise at the temple but it was very cloudy, so there was no chance we could see the sun rising so we were gutted as it was suppose to be beautiful and it was the main reason for getting up at 4:30am!!!
After seeing a few more temples and taking lots of pictures we then had breakfast - omelette!
The sun came out and was really strong....went to put sun cream on when Ross realised he's left it back at the hotel!!
After seeing few more temples, Tom said there was one more temple he wanted to take us to, the one where Tomb Raider (Angelina Jolie) was filmed. As you can imagine it was packed and was always difficult to take pictures without other people being in it.
By now we were tired and burnt, so we headed back to the hotel to have nice cold shower and a short nap (although it wasn't really a short nap - 4hours long!)
Had dinner down 'pub street' and a few beers when a group of Irish people sat next to us and it wasn't long before we chatted to them - as usual they asked us to teach them sign language and we were all having a good banter.
We all ended up dancing and drinking in a nightclub until about 1:45am when they put the Euros football on (Germany vs Italy). In between watching, people were still dancing and Ross ended up having an arm wrestle with a big man - which Ross won and the man wanted a rematch and Ross won 2 more times!
As soon as the football finished, the nightclub was closing down and we said our byes to the Irish group and went to bed.

Lynn Stone Up at 4.30am and no possibility of seeing the sunrise..........such a shame. Can't believe that you managed to get up at such an hour, William. That's got to be a record!! You've both had such an amazing time thus far........and you haven't been there a week yet. Enjoy. X
two-amigos It was a struggle!! Yes still got lots of time left - will go to Koh Rong tmw for a night and then a few days at Sihanoukville with a day trip to Kampot. Xx
peter Jeyes William / Ross, Keep on trucking - oh well, unforunately there is always someone trying to make money - must be like the gypsies over here with "lucky heather" not so lucky when you have to pay for it - but cons exist the world over, how much is the going rate for a jos stick. Up at 4.30 and no sunrise, still you managed to see the sights if not all lit up with the morning sun, yet as you managed to leave nightclub at 1.45 if you had hung on for another 3 hours you could have seen the sun rise and saved yourselves USD 20.00 although in fairness the views might not have been as good. Great to hear you are still both having fun and enjoying the journey - take care of yourselves Peter J
Elizabeth Tarala Will remember when we got up early in Samoa to wathc the sunrise and we were sat watching in the wrong direction so the sun came up behind us! FOOLS lol ! xxx
Frances Stone Ha, I never knew Ross was a good armwrestler! Especially against a 'Big Man'! LOL Sounds like you had fun though. Shame about the whole sunrise thing, and William, I can't believe you got up at 4:30am! Wow! You hate getting up at 6:30 let alone 4:30! Shock Horror! :-)
