Day 1 - 25th June:
Hello, are you guys looking forward to reading our first blog update? The flight was smooth and comfortable. Leg space was top notch, so we were able to stretch out legs sitting down. Obviously we were gutted to miss England vs Italy and was kinda hoping they'll show it on the plane but they don't. William felt that the game will end 1-1 and then the Italians will win the penalty. Ross had a feeling that England will lose 2-1.
We finally arrived at Kuala Lumpur after a long 12 hours flight. We were sad to find out that England lost - but then again it's typical of England!
Arrived in Phnom Penh and it was like as if someone was blowing a hot
hair dryer in our faces!
The journey to our hotel was a strange one - there's 3 lanes on the motorway but not exactly slow, medium and fast lanes like we have in the UK but rather random lanes where motor bikes & cars zigzag pass each other.
The traffic light took 99seconds to go from Red to Green (which we noticed when our taxi driver stopped and pulled out a magazine whilst waiting for the green light!)
Apparently our taxi driver wasn't sure where the hotel was, so that took another 20 mins driving around to find it, but in the end we found it.
Got to the reception and showed them our booking confirmation form and somehow they claimed that they haven't received it and then started to tell us that we were at the wrong hotel when it was 100% the right hotel. We reckoned their system/organisation has gone pear shaped and was trying to cover themselves up by saying "your at the wrong hotel" - anyhow after our disagreement they've given us a dorm for a rate of USD5 per night instead of USD7.
So that was a great start to our adventure!!
We've end the day with an extra cold pint in our hand (which cost 60p!!), chilling by the pool and watching the sunset go down.
Oh and we've become great friend with the receptionist after a couple of games of pool - its a funny world we live in!
